Indoor Air Quality Tips
Follow these helpful hints and tips to ensure the indoor air you're breathing is clean, safe, and comfortable!
Control humidity levels - Recommended levels for your home are between 30-50% relative humidity.
- Ensure bathroom showers and other moisture-creating sources are vented to the outside when in use
- Control excessively dry air or damp conditions by having a whole-house humidification, dehumidification, or ventilation system installed
Replace/clean air filters regularly - Not only will clean filters keep your system running at peak efficiency, they will also increase the quality of air passing through them.
Use safe cleaning products - Most would not think of it, but cleaning products come with warnings for a reason: they contain toxic chemicals that are exposed to the indoor air when used. Alternatively, use non-toxic cleaners when possible. When you must use products that contain toxic chemicals, ventilate the room in which it is being used to ensure the fumes escape quickly.
Vacuum and dust - One simple way to control the dust buildup in your home or workplace is to get rid of it (and often)! This will ensure that dust particles and those microscopic dustmites are kept to a minimum.
Deal with your pets - Pets are a definite source of poor indoor air quality. There are ways to keep the air clean without getting rid of your best friends!
- If you have pets that shed fur, keeping up with vacuuming the floors and furniture to keep pet dander to a minimum is a must
- Keep pets out of living areas and off of furniture if possible
- Cat litter can be a source of poor air quality - ensure it is kept clean in a room that can be closed off from the rest of the house
